Glendronach 25yo Grandeur Batch 007 Oloroso Sherry Casks
700ml 50.60%

$1500.00

This is the 2016 release for Australia of the famed and desired Grandeur. Now a 25yo but only 1180 bottles released worldwide. And this note from the Whisky Ranter blogger who doesn't "love" Speyside whiskies, "Stewed plums, dry spices, almonds and even cocoa kept resurfacing and falling back into the depths of sherried darkness with a puff of sweet cigar smoke seeing them all off. In the mouth the spirit seemed to be coalescing around an uncompromisingly spicy centre of cloves, cardamon, and black pepper until an astringent blip halted the promising development. On the midpalate fresh and creamy tropical fruits single-handedly prevailed over somewhat obstinate tannins and spices. The finish was as big as it was complex: the juiciness of red berries, spiciness of stewed plum compote, dryness of dark chocolate, sweetness of honeycomb…"

Glendullan 1998 16yo Centenary Single Cask
700ml 62.60%
  Ret
$340.00

RARE Big old fashioned malt produced in very small numbers for the distillery’s centenary and was bottled in 1998. Has been described as elegant yet firm & grassy. Notes from Whisky Fun, "Nose: punchy and interestingly grassy, on cut cactus and newly cut grass. Rather extreme in its own genre. Mouth: sweeter and more on lemon and grapefruit, extremely clean. Sleek and elegant, pretty much in the Rare Malts style (close to the distillery character and without compromise). 85 points."

Glenrothes 1971 28yo Restricted Release Sherry Wood
700ml 43.00%
  Ret
$950.00

From Glenrothes, "Heavily-sherried. The Vintage 1971 bottled in 1999 used 100% American Oak first fill sherry casks. This is not the norm for The Glenrothes which as a rule of thumb uses a combination of first fill sherry with refill sherry and refill bourbon. If you like sherry this is the one for you although strangely the label notes focus on "Rich, fruity and liquorice", which is certainly correct, but misses the key point. Mind you, missing this one was sadly all too easy: less than 5,000 bottles were ever produced." Actual pic shown.

Glenrothes 1973 27yo Sherry Cask
700ml 43.00%

$950.00

RARE Big influence of the sherry casks in this dram which was bottled in 2000. Notes from a Swiss blogger, "Nose: Almond, walnut, fruits, hints of eucalyptus, malt. Taste: Full and rich, citrus fruits like orange and lemon, notes of Sherry making it very smooth and creamy, honey, caramel fudge, hints of spice Aftertaste: Fruity and spicy, long and very complex. "Comes in the open, cardboard packaging. Actual pic shown.

Glenury Royal 1968 36yo

CLOSED DISTILLERY East Highlands distillery that was opened in 1825 and sadly closed in the "great closures" in 1983. This is an official bottling which only 2100 bottles were was released in 2005. If you, as I do, think the Rare Malts version is brilliant, this ancient offering is spectacular. Serge at Whisky Fun rated it 92pts, commenting, "Nose: very fresh, extremely fresh, astonishingly fresh. Lots of flowers from the fields, lavender honey, apricot syrup at first nosing, before it switches to bunches of fruity notes (primarily fresh pineapples, guavas, very ripe mangos). It keeps developing on old roses, gewürztraminer, lychee syrup, musk perfume… Both dried and fresh oranges. Goes on with some distant farmy notes (can you here the dogs barking?), wet hay, bonfire. Also something mineral, chalky, burnt matchsticks. Not bold at all but very complex, with a very long development, and no signs of over-ageing whatsoever. Ah, yes, now I get a few waxy notes… Very delicate indeed. Mouth: lots of vitality! Sweet, creamy but nervous, bold but not invading, on lots of fruit jams with a very nice feeling of ‘acidity’ that keeps it perfectly balanced. Almost no traces of wood, right in Diageo’s current style. It gets very gingery, though, in a very nice way. Develops on apricot pie, cooked apples with caramel, herbal tea, quince jelly. Hints of tangerine liqueur, Mandarine Impériale, dried kumquats, roasted nuts (all kinds). A little nutmeg, cinnamon… Lots of oomph but always balanced. The finish is long, on fruit liqueurs and even a little rummy. Very, very good and amazingly young. Sure it’s not infanticide (yes, that’s an expression some use in the wine world) but maybe they should have waited another thirty or forty years to bottle it?

GM Glen Mhor 1979 20yo

CLOSED DISTILLEY From Gordon & MacPhail. The last of the great Inverness distilleries and for me, Glen Mhor's had an amazing, almost jelly like mouthfeel.. Founded 1898 but was closed by Diageo in that disastrous year of 1983. Just as I was getting into single malts. Actual pic shown.

GM MacPhails 1951 39yo

RARE Now they won’t tell where this old sherry monster comes from, but the dram has plenty of old sherry notes along with a distinct waxiness and leafiness. But I'll leave it to a well known retialer who has actually tried it, "The nose is thick and fruity with notes of fruit salad, a touch of honeydew melon and a pine resin, a note of fresh herbs a touch of sherry. The palate is surprisingly delicate with a beautiful balance. There are notes of soft peat smoke and toasty oak, a touch of nectarine and plum with winter spice and sultanas. The finish is of medium-length with chewy sultanas and smoke."

Macallan 12yo Sherry Oak
700ml 40.00%
  Ret
$650.00

RARE This is a dying breed. Age statements are on the way out and getting hold of sherry Maccas in Oz has become an almost impossible task, so this 750ml bottling comes the late 1980's early 1990's and was imported by Stewarts Of Edinburgh. This whisky is all about sumptuous oak, dried fruits and furniture polish. Actual pic shown.

Macallan 1861 Replica

POA

RARE This is the first of the famed or infamous replica Releases from Macallan and was released in 2001. Bob Dalgarno from the Macallan offered the following tasting notes: "The nose displays citrus, dried fruits with spice and is lightly floral with hints of toffee, wood smoke, apple, light oil and malt. The palate reveals spice, light lemon-citrus, resin and lightly smoked oak flavours with hints of toffee re-emerging. Lingering slightly sweet aftertaste of spice, subtle smoked wood and malt. 42.7% Alc. / Vol. " Supposedly the distillery used 10 to 12 yo spirit to make up this dram. Actual pic shown.

Macallan 1874 Replica

RARE A first for me, as I have never sold it before. And this is the one that started the replica phase at Macallan. The story goes that either Frank Newlands or Dave Robertson got to try a sample of a Macallan from the 1870's, then set about recreating it around 2002. An early 2003 note from WhiskyFun, "There’s a bitterish, greenish astringency that makes it a little hard. Grape pips, chlorophyll, pickled ginger… But there are also much nicer sides, of course, the raisins, the figs… I also find a little gunpowder and tar. Finish: long but very grapey, acrid, kind of raspy." I must admit, that I thought there should have been some peat in there as well, given the era. Actual pic shown.

Macallan 1971 18yo Sherry Oak
750ml 43.00%
  Ret
$2200.00

RARE A bygone era of whisky production. One of the great, old fashioned style sherry monsters. This whisky comes from a collection that was purchased by the owner between 1988 and 1992, hence this whisky could have been distilled either in the 1970’s or early 1980’s. Sadly the collector disposed of the original packaging! The whisky is in good condition, however, some may have less than perfect fill levels, please refer to the pic. Aaah the tyranny of age. Pics are of the actual bottle.
