The beauty of this dram, is that the minimum age of the spirit in the bottle is 25 years.  So this 2005 bottling suggests that it is approximately 28 years of age!  Extraordinary.  A full flavoured, deep and sweetly complex Ardbeg made in a bygone era when Ardbeg was little known to the general public.  Unlike today.  But, please keep in mind, that peat flavours do break down over time. So this offering has a very subtle but a highly endearing smoke presence.

Here's a bit of background history about the age and the bottling dates of The Lord Of The Isles from The Ardbeg Project, "The Lord of the Isles was originally bottled in 2001, and unofficially, it was released as an approximately 25 year old whisky, comprised of 1976 and 1977 casks. It is said to always contain casks from 1976 and 1977 so the whisky would be older as each bottling run was released. Much like the Ardbeg 17, the actual age of Lord of the Isles increases towards the end of its bottling life. Theoretically, the LOTI in 2007 was almost 30 years old".
