GRAIN
Cadenhead Small Batch Port Dundas 1988 27yo
700ml 50.90%
  Ret
$229.00

A single grain whisky, produced in a giant continuous still and aged for 27 years! I'm intrigued because I know these style are complex & intriguing. In Mr Watt's words, "It's quite thick rich creamy on the front of the palate before we get to Brown sugar, spiced oranges. Very oily with pistachio nuts and almond."

Cadenhead Small Batch Strathclyde 1989 25yo Grain
700ml 57.80%
  Ret
$229.00

A big, seven still, grain distillery located in the heart of Glasgow. Now owned by Pernod Ricard. Tasting note from Cadenheads, "Nose: Quite rye like, lots of digestive biscuits, melted butter with pineapples and clotted cream. Palate: Sweet, dried bananas, some grassy notes and then pineapple chews. Soft strawberry yoghurt notes and then white pepper. Finish: Big whisky, very creamy, lots of dry spices and then coconut, hints of peanut butter and then more creaminess."

Cadenhead Small Batch Strathclyde 1989 26yo Single Grain
700ml 58.10%
  Ret
$229.00

Another fascinating and complex single grain, well-aged single grain whisky produced from a continuous still. In Mark Watt's words, "Some aniseed notes with hints of treacle toffee, some fresh mint lifts the palate a little more than in comes banana yogurt to give the middle palate a nice big mouth feel."

Cadenhead Strathclyde 1989 24yo Grain Bourbon
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$159.00

Aaaah! The joys of a well aged grain whisky. It's not for every one, but once you have tasted their superb complexity...you'll be hooked. In Cadenhead's words, "Nose Lots of vanilla. Oily, creamy, white pepper and lots of lemon notes. Palate Oily; maize, lots of buttery notes. A touch salty with a hint of white chocolate. Finish Lingering oily notes; olives and a growing saltiness and pears." Only 504 bottles produced.

BLEND
Cadenhead Creations 175th 18yo Light Creamy Vanilla
700ml 44.60%
  Ret
$149.00

This is Mark Watt and his team at Wm Cadenhead at their most eccentric and artistic best: blending up a storm with some pretty classy building blocks of both single malt and grain whiskies. This is new for 2017 but continues the Light Creamy Vanilla blend theme started a couple of years ago/ According to Watt, "Satsuma (ie mandarine) peel, milk chocolate, icing sugar and strawberries." Perfect for a summer's afternoon!

Cadenhead Creations 1980 36yo Rich Fruity Sherry Blended Whisky
700ml 44.50%
  Ret
$289.00

Rich, fruity and sherry. What more can you ask for. This Creations series from Mark Watt and his team at Cadenheads has been quite the success. Using a variety of styles including single malt and grain whiskies along old and new whiskies with the aim of making something special, something tasty and something very unique. And the taste? Vanilla with a hint of toffee, raspberries, strawberry jam, soft spice and marzipan. And there's plenty of sherry in it as well. And all matured in two sherry butts.

Campbeltown Loch Blend 21yo
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$149.00

This Frank McHardy inspired blend is new for 2013, and consists of 60% malt whisky (12 single malts) and 40% grain whisky. Plus pleasingly, McHardy has up the ante by taking the alcohol to 46%. Approx 6,200 bottles were released and I've seen it limited to 3 bottles per customer in some UK outlets! . From a retail blog site, "Nose: Incredibly complex. Sweet with notes of malt and cereal at first, giving way to rich, ripe fruits, soft peaches and orange marmalade. A drop of water brings out ! butterscotch and pears. Palate: The sweetness from the nose is still very much in evidence. A full-bodied whisky with honey, marzipan and nougat to the fore. A little bit of vanilla ice cream and rhubarb sweets develop over time. Finish: Rich, sweet, fruity, oily and very well balanced."

This is a wee bit special, as McNabs were once the owner of the now highly collectible, Lochside distillery. So this is Lochside's blend. Lochside closed in 1992, so this 75ml blend ir possibly pre-1980's. Pic available upon request.

Suntory Hibiki Harmony Blend
700ml 43.00%
  Ret
$170.00

It's all peace and harmony now as I've finally got hold of some Japanese whiskies. It's a blend that includes Yamazaki and Hakushu malt along with a dose of Chita grain. Five different oak types are used to mature it, which includes sherry and Japanese oak as well. Light and elegant.

White Heather 13.5oz 70 Proof Blend
375ml 40.00%
  Ret
$80.00

And old 375ml bottling of this famous blend. It comes from Campbell & Sons blenders, who were part of Pernod Ricard and who owned Aberlour distillery. So I presume the malt for White Heather is from Aberlour. Pic available upon request.
