Description
From a moribund distillery to one of the true gems of Speyside, Gordon & MacPhail need to be congratulated for what they have achieved at Benromach since they bought it in 1993.
Their original aim was to make whisky in the style of the great 1950’s bottlings. That is, it will be bold and robust in style with a modicum of peat (12ppm). And indeed, they have most certainly achieved that aim.
This 10yo is part of the core range and according to Gavin Smith, “Mouthcoating, spicy, malty and nutty on the palate, with developing citrus fruits, raisins and soft wood smoke.
I believe it uses both American and sherry oak in its maturation”.
