And after 15 years you are left with a finely integrated malt that lives up to it’s owners aim of being an “old fashioned dram”…
From a moribund distillery to one of the true gems of Speyside, Gordon & MacPhail need to be congratulated for what they have achieved at Benromach since they bought it in 1993.
Their original aim was to make whisky in the style of the great 1950’s bottlings. That is, it will be bold and robust in style with a modicum of peat (12ppm). And indeed, they have most certainly achieved that aim.
This 15yo, ex Bourbon and sherry oak matured malt has undergone a further 6 years maturation in Oloroso casks.
And after 15 years you are left with a finely integrated malt that lives up to it’s owners aim of being an “old fashioned dram” as it is oily, has body, hints of sherried fruitiness with some lively spirit.
And dig a little deep, and then you get the very gentle smoke.
Some even, have called it flawless.
