Bruichladdich’s crazily young, high smoke, cask strength, super dram. You would think the result could be quite ugly. But it isn’t as the distillery with the deft use of oak brings us a balanced full flavoured dram.

For this 2021 release, American oak and PX sherry casks were employed for maturation while the barley comes off a single site: Octomore Farm.

From the WhiskyWash, “An interesting mix of savory, roasted, bright, and fruity aromas. I get charred peanuts, coffee beans, stout beer, dates, tangerine, and pineapple, all wreathed in abundant dry smoke. Not much changes with the addition of some water—it’s still very roasty, robustly smoky, with a pleasant tension between dark roast and citrusy fruit. 3.5/5.”

Official notes read, “The PX casks bring a luxurious dried fruit style, sweet and rich. This layers beautifully with the rich phenols and light marine notes”.
