Description
Feis Ile, the annual celebration of all things to do with Islay. Especially single malt whisky. And it’s a huge festival.
As part of the festival, the distilleries like to release a special Feis Ile bottling. But traditionally, you have to be on the island on the day to get hold of it.
Until now.
Bunnahabhain, in their infinite wisdom have release a little bit into the general trade. I feel lucky.
Thiss 2022 release Abhainn Araig or Araig River, is a an un-peated, ex Bourbon, PX sherry octave cask matured malt of an unknown age. And at cask strength.
From WordsOfWhisky, “And we’re off with sultanas, caramel and toffee, but the arrival is a combination of walnuts, charred oak and intense spices. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner than expected. Finish: Some chocolate, cumin and coffee grounds, as well as lingering oak spices and an alcoholic touch”.
Official notes read, “A velvety rich texture , initially creamy milk chocolate then sweet raisins and dried raspberries.
As the PX develops balsamic vinegar and honeyed macadamias come through. Deep and rich, with dark toffee and a final spicy burst of cinnamon”.
