A pronounced fortified wine character (not this bottling)…
Federal Distilleries Kings Jubilee Australian Blended Whisky 1 Pint 6 Fl Oz 750ml 40%
Another historic curio from the time when high tariffs in Australia meant a large homegrown distilling trade was in existence.
A blended Aussie whisky put together by one Stephen King Pty Ltd Melbourne possibly in the 1950’s or early 1960’s. This company was a subsidiary of the giant Federal Distillery based in Port Melbourne. For the full story on Federal check out Oz Whisky Review.
According to spirts author, Mr Luke McCarthy, he got to try it, but sadly it wasn’t the bottling I am selling here but.., “Our first impression was encouraging – hardly any bottle taint. The nose gave off hints of caramel, musty oak, candle wax, and a slight treacle, mince pie note. On the palate, there was a pronounced fortified wine character, whether from Spanish sherry or Australian fortified wine casks, hard to say. The finish was pretty short, but overall, held a nice balance between spirit and oak. All in all, not that complex, but an interesting balance of flavours”…this bottle was found Japan!
