Mackmyra Ek Swedish Oak Finish Single Malt

New for 2023 and what a treat it was to taste this damn fine malt.

Crisp malt, clean inviting spirit and the use of some very excellent ex and new American, a smattering of Oloroso casks and get this: 10% use of Swedish oak.  And that latter oak just adds a layer of very tasty spice. And you can taste why they restricted the us of the Swedish oak: it’s big on the spice.

It’s a ripper.

BTW: Ek is Swedish for…oak.

Official notes read, “The taste lives up to the promise of the aroma with pear, citrus, and dried ginger. The sweet tones now lean towards caramel, sweet almonds, and slightly bready notes. The taste also reveals spicy oak influences. Aftertaste: The aftertaste is long and warming. Sweet milk chocolate balances the robust oak influences and the spicy pepper and ginger”.
