There is a pleasing trend going through the Scottish whisky trade, where distillers are starting to make different styles form their stills and giving these new styles, new names.  Springbank have been doing it for ages, Brruichladdich have three or so as do others..

And since 2009, Glenturret has started producing a highly peated malt and calling it Ruadh Maor.  And I think it is a ripper.

Here’s my notes, “Fruity, big malt, soft and sweet, lightly sherried fruit flavours, rich, oily palate with good length.  The spirit is youthful, but this works well with the sweetness and the gentle smokiness.  And those dried fruits just hang around”.

From MaltReview, “Ridiculously drinkable. Ridiculously tasty. So much better than the current Glenturret range…If you’re after interesting flavours – something different from the norm – at a very decent price, for God’s sake look this up. I haven’t liked a whisky more for under £50 this year”.
