Description

According to Oz Whisky Review, Old Court is in fact is in fat a single malt whisky that was once prized not only in Australia but also in Europe and Scotland.

The spirit comes from the long defunct Federal Distillery located in Port Melbourne in Victoria.  It was once touted as the largest distillery in the southern hemisphere in the 1880’s.  The Review claims that out put was 4 million litres annually.

Opened in 1884, went into voluntary liquidation in 1963 and eventually taken over by the Distillers Company, owner of Corio.  Brands like Old Court then faded away in the 1960’s.

I’m guessing the 1960’s with this bottling.  But it intrigues me why they didn’t put pure malt or single malt on the label?
