Description
The rolling hills of Rutherglen in Victoria meets the waterfalls, moorland and hillside of the Welsh Brecon Beacons. What a match!
And just look at it’s age! The distillate for this malt dates right back to the early days of the distillery. Initially matured in ex Bourbon casks for 5 years and then was transferred to Buller’s cask, I presume American oak, that once held a shiraz off the famed Calliope vineyard. Where it rested for another 12 years or so.
I tired this malt briefly, fortunately the red wine cask didn’t over flavour or leave any nast tannins in tihs malt. Overall, pure Penderyn: soft and silky but very lively for its age. Most intriguing.
Only 203 bottles were released, exclusively for Australia.
Official notes read, “Smooth with soft spices, red apples. Almonds with roasted coffee beans.”
