Penderyn Rich Oak Welsh Single Malt Whisky

Description

The core range for Penderyn now features the original Madeira cask finish, the Sherrywood, Peated and now, one called Rich Oak.

And this malt is all about having a big oak flavours courtesy of both American oak, ex Bourbon and and rejuvenated, ie shaved, toasted and re-charred ex European oak wine casks.

My rough notes read, “More expressive , oak driven nose than the Madeira, mix of caramel fudge and berry fruitiness. On the palate, bright and lively spirit with a big, mid palate does of grippy oak.  Almost a crunchy feel out it.  Lingering oakiness”.

From the WhiskyJug, ” It’s warm, bold and expressive. It’s awesome. Medium -> Tropical fruit candy, vanilla taffy and some malty sweetness dissolve to turn a tad metallic and oaky.  Good balance, med-full body, and a velvety feel”.

Official notes read, “Rich and complex. A creamy texture with hints of vanilla, oak and cinnamon, and a hint of nutty toffee.  A creamy-vanilla flavour which is in no rush to ebb away.”
