A background of ash, iodine and butter…

I quite like the idea of blended malts, where the botler, in time honoured tradition, creates a style that is unique to their company.  Sadly, the public are generally, quite shy when it comes to these styles.  They just don’t quite seem to trust them.

So what do we have here? This 2020 release from Samaroli, has the lot.  I am led to believe that it is made up of: 2014 Caol Ila ex-bourbon hogshead, 2007 Glen Moray ex-bourbon hogshead and 2007 Glen Elgin ex-bourbon hogshead.

Official notes read, “Nose: Immediately a background of ash, iodine and butter; we find a long and pungent note a little bit sulphurous that fades slowly getting out of shades of candied fruit. Palate: In the mouth it is enveloping, satisfying and gives us back all the sensations that initially stimulated us on the nose. Finish: Persistent with strong notes of fresh hay, rhubarb, undergrowth and roots”.
