Sazerac Straight Rye 6yo

Description

From Buffalo Trace, comes one of the great rye’s to come out of the US.  And was one of a small handful, I have to say, that got Aussies enthralled with rye whiskies.

While it was the Antique Collection, that got us coming out in a sweat, this entry level 6yo Saz, still delivers the goods.  Just ask Jim Murray, 96pts in 2019.

From BreakingBourbon, ” The mash bill is believed to be approx 51% rye, 39% corn, and 10% malted barley.  Fruit flavors comprised of sweet apricots, orange peel, and plums meet more traditional notes of caramel and vanilla. Light barrel char teases in the background, along with a mix of raisin and anise underneath. It has a light body, and at 90 proof, requires a bit of searching to pull out all the flavors. With that being said, the reward is worth the effort”.

Official notes read, “The taste has subtle notes of candies, spice and crisp citrus.  The big finish is smooth with hints of licorice”.
