In my early days in the wine trade, there was a dearth of European white wine styles being made in  Australia.  Thanks to the likes of Ch Tahbilk (as it was then called) with their fragrant marsanne and Yalumba with their rich and silky viognier, they just persevered with these weird and wonderful styles.  These wines were an affordable and easy way to try these rather exotic styles.

And with Louisa Rose championing a richer style of viognier that could take some oak, it wasn’t long before  the then production manager, Mr Peter Wall along with Mr David Zimmerman, decided to age one of their new malts partially in French oak viognier casks.  The viognier in question was one of Ms Rose’s late picked desert wines.

I vaguely remember it being lush and creamy with a nice dose of stewed fruits.

And best of all, it is at cask strength. 330 bottles released.
