Smiths Angaston 2000 15yo 50 Year Old Tawny Cask Finished

Description

A mid 2000’s release of a very well aged Aussie malt.  And this is quite a surprise, given the amount grief our climate gives us with trying to maturing whisky in a warm climate.  Normally, by this this age, there would be only a puddle in the bottom of the barrel.

And with this special Smiths malt, I suspect its the first time they employed fortified casks for maturation.  You can only think that these casks would be quite exceptional, given Yalumba’s extensive history in making top grade fortified wines.

Initial maturation was done in French oak then three old fortified octaves were used for finishing the malt off.
