Spirit Thief Adams American Oak Shiraz Heavily Charged Tasmania Single Malt

One of the new “hot” distilleries to come out of Tasmania, very sadly was engulfed in fire a few weeks ago. Our best wishes go to the owners and staff at the distillery. Very hard luck indeed.

For this indie bottling from Spirit Thief, American oak casks that once held voluptuous McLaren Vale shiraz was used in the maturation. But the twist with this malt, is that this cask was then heavily charred.

My thoughts: Sweet flavoured nose, plenty of vanilla and ginger coming from the oak. Initially, on the palate, there’s great balance, especially with the high strength alcohol which gives away to charry oak flavours.
