Out of the four new releases in the Camborne range, this is one I was really getting excited about. Having tasted the XO series brandies numerous times over the last few and number of those tasting being spirit show judging, the subtle but high quality casks used for these brandies are quite superb. And Angove’s deft handing of these casks is one of the simple reasons why Angoves have won so many trophies for them over the years.
Now, these second-fill French oak casks are being re-used for their new single malts.
My notes read, “Malt and spicy oak abound, slight resinous note, light brandy overtones with kitchen spice.
Good length, sweet malt entry, lush mid palate, tingling alc, grainy oak, hints of dried fruits and nuts. Lingering. Intriguing”.
Official notes read, “Vanilla and crème caramel with a faint wisp of cedar shavings, opening up into layered caramel malt and Anzac biscuit. Finish: Pear tarte tatin, ginger spice, lightly roasted nuts, tobacco and a hint of smoke. Oak tannins firm the palate for a dry and pleasant finish”.
