The Scalasaig Island Hopper Maiden Voyage Coastal Islands Blended Malt Whisky

Colonsay. A smallish island nestling between Islay, Mull and Jura. And with the advent of Colonsay Distillers, another Scottish island joins the distillers club.

But for the time being, this new island company is going to rely on independently bottling a range of whiskies that reflect their coastal and island climate.

So, meet the Maiden Voyage, a blended single malt (remember the old term vatted malt?) that definitely meets their aims. As my notes read, “Vatted Islands Sherry (dark) 18 months, peated, sherry with a big dose of smoke, lively alcohol and a degree of nuttiness. the sherry flavours are dry and it’s quite meaty. Mmmmm. Dry Oloroso and smokey finish, lingering.  Nice one and I just love the labeling”.

Official notes read, “Rich and robust. Warming hints of exotic spice, dried fruits and dark liquorice. Enveloping it all is the bold burning embers of a peat fire.  Salty sea breeze, sweet and warming with waves of maritime smoke”.
