The Scalasaig Island Hopper Jura 1992 29yo Single Cask

Description

Colonsay.  A smallish island nestling between Islay, Mull and Jura.  And with the advent of Colonsay Distillers, another Scottish island joins the distillers club.

Initially gin distillers, I suspect they will eventually turn their hands to malt distillation.  But for the meantime, they decided to become independent bottlers with the idea of only bottling malts that have the distinctive taste of the coast or islands of Scotland.  Just like Colonsay.

And what a way to start, a very well aged Jura.

And magic labeling too.

My notes read, “Pretty nose, tropical fruit, honeycombe, gentle well integrated, Fab!
Lots going on, sweet milk chocolate, long but oh so gentle, salty, seaside note, white pepper, ginger nut biscuits
Dry oaky finish, lush sweetness, good mouthfeel, lingering. An extrovert Jura”.

Official notes read, “Sweet muscovado sugared apples, old oak and sea salt spray.  Warming toasted oak and lingering sweet spice”.
