Description

From the inner Adelaide  suburban distillery of Welland, comes Tin Shed’s flagship malt.  The best cask, at cask strength and one that Ian and Vic at TSD know it is their best of the bottling season.

In might be a young 2yo, but local maturation conditions make this big, fulsome dram ready to go.  A hallmark of the Tin Shed style.

Uan Schmidt, distiller states, “Originally filled into a single Shiraz 225 litre cask in November 2017, six months prior decanting the cask was topped up with 2 YO Heaven Hill bourbon cask whisky to add complexity and take the sharp edge off the Shiraz cask whisky”.

Official notes read, “There is a healthy alcohol tongue tingle and once again, warmth without heat. There lovely, creamy, high octane mouth feel followed by the marmalade and notes of polished wood.  Autumnal leaves and sherry notes that is surprisingly gentle with a long, sour plum tail and well integrated oak”.

But here’s what one of Australia’s foremost whisky critics, Mr Andrew Derbidge,  thinks of this dram, ”

Palate: The mouthfeel is softer and silkier than the Silver Batch 021, despite a much higher ABV. Some balancing savouriness offsets the initial fruitiness. It’s softer; there’s less heat, and certainly no rough edges – it’s actually a very soothing, sultry dram! A curious mix of caramel, dried fruits (particularly figs), and dried spices. Water brings out barley malt and a touch of rich, orange citrus (bordering on choc-orange)

Finish: Sweet, warming, and nicely balanced.

Comments: If the Silver Batch 021 was a boisterous pick-me-up; the Gold Batch 006 is a luxurious indulgence. This is balanced and integrated – malt, spirit, and oak are in sublime harmony. There are some very good single malt Scotch whiskies that take 18 years to get to this level of complexity and completeness.”
