Vintage Malt Whisky Coopers Choice Caol Ila 2012 8yo

Description

I’ve seen a lot of Caol Ila’s in 2020 and 2021 and most were young.  And most were finished in exotic casks.

So when this arrived on my desk I was more than pleasantly surprised. This malt is just so honest.  It is so classically Caol Ila: from it’s full bodied, showing well integrated American creamy oak and with such a length I haven’t seen in a malt for ages.  And then that distinct Islay ashy and briny peat arrives with some bright and lively spirit giving this dram life.

Classic and honest indeed.

Official notes read, “Charred sticks and bourbon biscuits, smoky oils with tar and sweet peat. Peppery peat and drying on the finish.”
